Looking forward to reading the book. BUT!! The pages have loaded in reverse order. This is pretty weird don’t you think?
What a blessing to have David C Needham's class notes on Isaiah in book form! Fantastic.
This superbly written book provides a breathtaking view of Isaiah's God. For those of us who would cherry-pick a few verses from Isaiah and content ourselves with that, David C. Needham provides just the help needed for better acquainting ourselves with the life and times of this remarkable prophet.
On our own, the themes of this book, rooted as they are in history and prophecy, often seem perplexing, tempting a hurry-up scanning until we find verses that are more familiar. But by book's end, we find we have scanned more than we have studied, simply because much of what we read is more wall than window to us. The sudden shifts in tone and content are particularly confusing to Isaiah's readers. So, sensitive to this issue, Needham provides a schematic that helps Bible lovers understand why Isaiah does this.
David Needham's knowledge of prophetic literature is obvious. Yet, he does not showcase this knowledge by turning away from his readers to refute and support other biblical commentators. Instead, always with his readers in mind, attention is riveted on what was going on in Isaiah's day and what was going on in the heart of God. By adopting this approach, confusion is replaced by clarity and that which had been obscure history to us, or the fuzzy, faraway future, is transformed into the vivid viewing necessary to make our study of Isaiah devotional.
